Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero expressed confidence that the Philippines will attract more foreign investors following the enactment of a law extending land lease contracts from 75 to 99 years.
The law, signed by President Marcos on September 3, amends the Investors’ Lease Act of 1993 and aims to address foreign investors’ concerns about land ownership restrictions.
Escudero emphasized that stability in land lease agreements is crucial for investors who want security for their investments.
The law includes provisions ensuring the lease is used for approved investments, allows renewal by mutual consent, and imposes penalties for misuse or contracts exceeding the 99-year limit.
Escudero also emphasized that increased foreign investment will create jobs and promote technology transfer, thereby boosting local enterprises and competitiveness.
