A Quezon City Regional Trial Court convicted alleged mastermind Dante Encarnacion Tabusares and gunman Junell Jane Andagkit Poten of murdering Kidapawan radio journalist Eduardo “Ed” Dizon.
Both were sentenced to reclusion perpetua, while a third accused, Sotero “Jun” Jacolbe Jr., had earlier been acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence.
Dizon was shot dead on July 10, 2019, while driving home after his radio program in Kidapawan City.
His widow, Madonna Dizon, welcomed the convictions and said justice had been served.
The Presidential Task Force on Media Security also hailed the ruling as a crucial milestone in pursuing justice and combating impunity against journalists.
