Zamboangueña weightlifter Angeline Colonia won gold in the snatch event at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Kazakhstan, competing in the Junior women’s 48 kg category.
She lifted 77 kg in snatch and placed fourth in clean and jerk and total, surprising herself with the gold.
Earlier, she earned silver and bronze medals at the World Youth and Junior Championships in Peru.
Mayor Khymer Olaso honored Colonia and several other local athletes, including chess and dancesport competitors, during a ceremony at Zamboanga City Hall.
The mayor praised their dedication and the pride they bring to the city, also recognizing their coaches for their contributions.
