Elon Musk’s platform X announced measures to prevent its AI chatbot Grok from generating sexualized images of real people, including in bikinis and underwear, following global criticism and legal scrutiny.
The company will geoblock this feature in jurisdictions where such actions are illegal, applying restrictions to all users, including paid subscribers.
The announcement comes after California’s attorney general launched an investigation into xAI, Grok’s developer, for producing non-consensual explicit material.
Several countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, India, the UK, and France, have taken action or initiated probes in response to Grok’s “Spicy Mode” feature. X’s move aims to curb the misuse of its AI tools while responding to mounting international pressure and regulatory oversight.
