The Bangsamoro local government has launched a three-year plan to improve madrasah education in the region, focusing on enhancing the quality and integration of the Islamic educational system from 2024 to 2026.

The Madrasah Education Strategic Plan (MESP), presented at a forum in Makati City, aims to establish a comprehensive curriculum and improve teaching standards with support from the Australian government.

Bangsamoro BHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal emphasized the importance of madrasah education for building lasting peace and integrating regional values.

The plan also seeks to increase student enrollment by 30% by 2028 and includes discussions with Education Secretary Sonny Angara on curriculum integration.

Currently, there are 373 formal madaris and 720 non-formal madaris in the region serving over 135,000 students.
