The Villars and Aguilars, longtime political allies in Las Piñas City, have ended their partnership after three decades.
The split emerged following Sen. Cynthia Villar’s announcement of her intention to run for a city mayoral or congressional seat under the Nacionalista Party (NP), led by her husband, former Senate president Manny Villar.
In response, incumbent Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar-Neri have decided to leave the NP and join another political party.
Las Piñas 1st District Councilor Mark Anthony Santos, who supported both families in past elections, will also part ways with the Villars.
The Aguilars have indicated they will not support Rep. Camille Villar’s Senate bid, further deepening the political rift.
