Nine of the 12 winning senatorial candidates in the May 12 elections each spent over PHP100 million on their campaigns, according to Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs) released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Senator Camille Villar was the biggest spender, with PHP179.6 million, followed by Senators Lito Lapid and Pia Cayetano, who spent PHP163.6 million and PHP162 million, respectively.
Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson had the lowest campaign expenditure among the winners, at PHP18.9 million.
Pia Cayetano also received the highest campaign contributions, totaling PHP169.6 million, while Rodante Marcoleta reported no contributions.
The law allows candidates to spend PHP3 per registered voter, with over 68 million voters in this year’s midterm elections.
