VALENZUELA IMPOSES FINES ON VENDORS USING FAULTY WEIGHING SCALES

Around 130 vendors in Valenzuela have been fined P5,000 each for using defective and non-compliant weighing scales during surprise inspections in local markets.

Mayor Weslie Gatchalian led “Operation Timbangan” at Karuhatan Market, where defective scales were confiscated and destroyed following complaints from consumers.

The initiative is based on the Timbangan ng Bayan Act and the city’s New Market Code, which aims to ensure fairness in trade and protect consumer rights.

Violators could face heavier penalties, including fines of up to P300,000 or imprisonment for repeat offenses.

Gatchalian emphasized the importance of maintaining honest trade practices and educating vendors on the proper use of compliant weighing devices.
