US AMBASSADOR APPLAUDS PRESIDENT MARCOS’ STRONG RESPONSE TO CHINA’S CLAIM

US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson praised President Marcos for his strong stance against China’s claim.

The United States believes it is unimaginable for the Philippines to promise China that it would remove its ship from its own waters.

Ambassador Carlson commended President Marcos for his response, which she described as powerful.

During an interview, Ambassador Carlson mentioned that Manila regularly communicates with Washington about the South China Sea, specifically the West Philippine Sea.

The United States fully supports the Philippines in asserting its sovereignty.

Ambassador Carlson found it illogical for Manila to promise Beijing that it would remove the BRP Sierra Madre from Ayungin Shoal, as the waters being claimed by China are actually within the Philippines’ continental shelf and exclusive economic zone.

In 1999, the Philippines grounded the BRP Sierra Madre to protect its sovereignty in the area in response to China’s incursions.

President Marcos stated that there was no agreement with China to remove the grounded vessel.

The United States was pleased with President Marcos’ response, stating that if any agreement had been made, it would be rescinded.

Ambassador Carlson emphasized the US’s interest in working with the Philippines to deter conflict and maintain peace.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed that Chinese vessels outnumbered Philippine boats at Ayungin Shoal during an incident where water cannons were fired.

China had six Coast Guard vessels, two militia ships, and three navy ships, while the Philippines had two Coast Guard ships and two boats.

The Philippines’ boats were on a resupply mission, carrying essential supplies such as water, food, and other necessities.
