Despite President Marcos’ directive to cease operations, several Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) are reportedly continuing their activities as underground “micro-units,” according to the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).
The PAOCC has monitored a rise in these micro-units, complicating efforts to close down POGOs, which are required to wind down operations following expired work visas for foreign employees.
Authorities have recently closed an internet gaming license operation in Biñan and arrested 17 Chinese nationals at a suspected POGO hub in Tagaytay.
Local officials in Porac are facing graft complaints related to a POGO allegedly involved in human trafficking and cybercrime.
Senators have raised concerns over the proliferation of smaller POGO hubs, highlighting ongoing investigations into human trafficking linked to these operations.
