Ukrainian journalists and lawmakers told a Sept. 22 forum that the war in Ukraine shows how disinformation, propaganda, and even food supply chains are weaponized to justify aggression and undermine democracy.
They stressed that countering these tactics requires cooperation among media, civil society, and governments, noting that Russia’s grain blockade has affected countries like the Philippines.
Panelists highlighted Ukraine’s resilience, maintaining anti-corruption institutions and societal trust even under martial law.
They said protests and accountability are essential in wartime, proving that democracy can survive pressure if institutions remain transparent.
Philippine journalists were urged to confront disinformation, verify sources, and support truth-telling as part of a broader defense of peace and justice.
