TYPHOON ‘EGAY’ ESCALATES TO SUPER TYPHOON CATEGORY

Typhoon ‘Egay’ has become a super typhoon and it’s posing a threat to the northern part of Luzon, Philippines.

The weather authorities are closely monitoring its movement and have issued different warning signals for various regions.

As of the latest update at 8 a.m., Signal No. 3 is raised over Babuyan Islands, certain areas in Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao. Signal No. 2 is in effect for Batanes, the rest of Cagayan, Isabela, and more places. Signal No. 1 covers places like La Union, Pangasinan, and parts of Metro Manila.

Currently, the super typhoon is about 310 kilometers away from Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, and it has very strong winds of 185 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching 230 kilometers per hour.

The weather experts say that the typhoon is close to reaching its strongest point, but there’s a chance it might either maintain its current strength or get a bit stronger within the next 12 hours due to favorable weather conditions.

Egay is expected to either make landfall or come very close to Babuyan Islands and the northeastern part of mainland Cagayan sometime between late Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.

Depending on slight changes in its path, it may also affect northern mainland Cagayan or Batanes.

The typhoon is projected to leave the weather monitoring area by Thursday morning.

According to the latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), around 3,300 families (approximately 11,200 people) have been affected by the storm.

So far, there have been no reported casualties or missing persons.
