TWO WORKERS DIE IN LAS PIÑAS EXCAVATION COLLAPSE

Two workers contracted for a Maynilad Water Services, Inc. project were killed after an 18-meter-deep excavation site collapsed in Las Piñas City on Sunday.

The victims, identified only as Justine and Ricky, were trapped when the concrete shaft collapsed while five workers were conducting drilling operations in Barangay Pamplona Dos.

Two workers managed to escape, while another sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Maynilad said the project involved a wastewater pumping facility and that it is cooperating with authorities while reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident with its contractor.

Police said those found responsible for the workers’ deaths would face liability, while the Department of Public Works and Highways denied involvement in the excavation project.
