TULFO PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL PAROLE LAW TO AID SICK AND ELDERLY INMATES

Outgoing ACT-CIS Party-list representative and incoming senator Erwin Tulfo has pledged to push for a medical parole law for inmates aged 70 and above who are ill.

During his visit to New Bilibid Prison on June 10, Tulfo said institutionalizing this law will be among his top priorities in the 20th Congress.

He emphasized that elderly inmates deserve a chance to return to society and enjoy their remaining years.

Tulfo also plans to propose a correctional reform to merge the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) into one agency to improve coordination and reduce prison overcrowding.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang expressed full support for these initiatives, recognizing their potential to ease the plight of inmates.
