TRUMP’S WHO EXIT SPARKS CONCERNS FOR PHILIPPINE HEALTH PROGRAMS

Former Health Secretary and Iloilo Rep. Janette Garin expressed concerns over former US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing its potential impact on Philippine health programs funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

She warned that the move could reduce critical funding for health initiatives in the country.

While Garin acknowledged the US may be reallocating resources for domestic needs, she also emphasized the importance of WHO reforms to address spending inefficiencies.

Trump’s decision is expected to disrupt global health efforts and could lead to security concerns as world powers vie for leadership.

Observers see this as part of a broader shift in US policy, with Trump also withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord and initiating controversial immigration measures.
