Police Major General Nicolas Torre III has been appointed as the new chief of the Philippine National Police, with his term starting on June 2.
Torre is known for leading the operations that arrested doomsday preacher Apollo Quiboloy and former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Despite a past controversy where he resigned after a road rage incident press conference, Torre has held several key roles, including CIDG chief and regional police director.
His appointment has been praised by public officials like House Speaker Martin Romualdez and incoming congresswoman Leila de Lima for his integrity and leadership.
Torre succeeds Gen. Rommel Marbil and is expected to lead the PNP with professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
