The Department of Justice (DOJ) is confident that Timor-Leste’s Court of Appeals will uphold its decision to extradite expelled Negros Oriental lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr. Teves has filed a motion for reconsideration, challenging the court’s ruling on the Philippine government’s extradition request.
DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano believes it is unlikely the court will reverse its decision, noting that the issues raised by Teves were thoroughly examined previously.
Teves faces multiple murder charges, including for the assassination of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, and has been out of the country since 2023.
He was also designated a “terrorist” and expelled from the House of Representatives for misconduct and ongoing absences.
