TikTok has agreed to pause real money gambling advertisements in the Philippines starting today amid concerns over online gambling operations.
The move was welcomed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), which sees it as a significant step toward creating a safer digital space for Filipinos.
TikTok emphasized its commitment to working with Philippine authorities and maintaining strict advertising policies that require proper licenses and age restrictions.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers, like Rep. Leila de Lima, are pushing for a total ban on online gambling, citing its harmful effects on families and individuals.
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) acknowledges the challenge of distinguishing legal from illegal gambling and is urged to find alternative revenue sources that do not harm society.
