Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco confirmed that House lawmakers receive “break allowances” every time Congress goes on break, including Undas, Christmas, and Holy Week.
These allowances, which are separate from the monthly maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE), are intended to cover district-related costs and do not require liquidation.
Tiangco said he has received P1.5 million for the Undas break but has yet to claim the Christmas allowance.
Former COA commissioner Heidi Mendoza called for transparency, urging the release of itemized expense lists for legislators to ensure proper monitoring of public funds.
The issue has drawn attention after some lawmakers, including Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste, raised questions about the supposed P2-million “Christmas bonus” per congressman.
