Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia announced that more petitions to cancel certificates of candidacy (COCs) are expected, potentially increasing the total to thousands.
As of October 19, the Comelec had already received 43 petitions for cancellation and 223 petitions to declare certain candidates as nuisances.
Garcia emphasized that all petitions must be resolved by the end of November to ensure that only valid candidates appear on the official ballots for the 2025 midterm elections.
He also warned against the spread of fake news and disinformation on social media, stating that Comelec has partnered with platforms like Meta, Google, and TikTok to remove violating posts.
Candidates are required to register their social media accounts with the Comelec by December 13, 2024.
