Former Negros Oriental Representative Arnulfo “Arnie” Teves Jr.’s return to the Philippines was a lawful enforcement of arrest warrants, not an abduction, according to Presidential Communication Office Assistant Secretary Erel Cabatbat.
The operation, conducted peacefully in coordination with Timor-Leste authorities, was part of a high-level diplomatic effort led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Teves, who has faced multiple criminal charges related to the assassination of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo, was formally turned over to Philippine officials in Dili before being flown back under tight security.
During the transfer, he was read his Miranda rights and informed of around 10 pending warrants against him.
The government stressed that the arrest followed legal procedures and was carried out with respect for due process.
