The Philippine government has secured support from the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) for the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas (SCMB) Railway project after China withdrew from the deal.
The USTDA will provide funding for technical assistance to develop the freight railway, strengthening U.S.-Philippine cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Transport Secretary Vince Dizon said the project will help ease congestion at Manila Port and improve transport capacity at Batangas and Subic ports.
Special Assistant to the President Frederick Go highlighted the railway’s potential to attract investments, create jobs, and boost the local economy.
The project was initially proposed during the Duterte administration but stalled after China’s exit amid worsening Philippines-China relations.
