The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) will allocate ₱13 million for a second phase of cloud-seeding operations in November to protect sugarcane farms from the expected Super El Niño.
SRA Board Member David Andrew Sanson announced the funding after the completion of a ₱6-million joint operation with the Philippine Air Force and the Department of Agriculture from Sept. 7 to Oct. 14.
The initial campaign reported a 100% rainfall success rate despite challenges caused by varying crop conditions and reduced visibility from Mt. Kanlaon’s volcanic eruption.
The operation recorded 52 hours of flight time across two regions and used 456 bags of salt for cloud seeding.
Sanson said the extended operations aim to help safeguard sugarcane and other agricultural crops as dry conditions worsen.
