Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Thursday, Oct. 15, dismissed allegations that he received suitcases allegedly filled with cash, calling the claims an “old story” that did not deserve a response.
The allegations were raised by Rodante Orbillo, who testified before the Sandiganbayan that he delivered suitcases of cash to Sotto, former congresswoman Stella Quimbo, and former senator Antonio Trillanes.
Orbillo gave his testimony during the bail hearing of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who faces allegations involving ₱7.44 billion in kickbacks from government flood control projects.
Meanwhile, Sotto assured that the proposed 2027 national budget would not be used to influence the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
He said senators were closely scrutinizing the budget and would ensure transparency to prevent irregularities and misuse of the process.
