Some senators have expressed support for implementing random drug testing in the Senate following reports of alleged marijuana use within its premises.
Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto recalled that drug testing was previously conducted regularly among Senate employees during his tenure, while Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva reaffirmed his commitment to the practice under current leadership.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa also backed the move to ensure a drug-free workplace.
The incident involved a staff member of Senator Robinhood Padilla, who was ordered to submit a written explanation after being caught smoking marijuana on Senate grounds.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed that an investigation was conducted and its report was forwarded to Senator Padilla’s office for appropriate action.
