Senators defended their decision to grant Philippine citizenship to Chinese national Li Duan Wang, despite concerns raised about his links to offshore gaming operations.
Senator Risa Hontiveros opposed the move, citing Li’s alleged ties to POGO “big boss” Duanren Wu and his involvement with companies linked to illegal gaming hubs.
However, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian argued that Li’s application met all legal requirements, and government agencies found no criminal record against him.
Senate President Francis Escudero emphasized that the majority vote determined the bill’s approval, calling it a democratic process.
Meanwhile, Senator JV Ejercito noted that Li has lived in the Philippines for years and even has a Filipino name, Mark Ong.
