SENATOR GO PROPOSES EXPANDING PGH BED CAPACITY TO ADDRESS OVERCROWDING

Senator Bong Go has filed a bill proposing an increase in the Philippine General Hospital’s (PGH) bed capacity from 1,334 to 2,200 to address overcrowding and enhance healthcare services, especially for indigent Filipinos.

PGH, the country’s largest government tertiary hospital, serves over 700,000 patients annually and often operates beyond its capacity, with reports of beds exceeding their daily limit by more than 200%.

Go highlighted the hospital’s vital role in the national healthcare system, noting that it faced challenges such as overcrowding in its emergency room and wards.

Additionally, he advocated for the establishment of a halfway house for patient watchers, ensuring they have a proper place to stay while waiting for loved ones.

The proposed increase in bed capacity aims to provide more space for patients and improve healthcare accessibility.
