The House of Representatives spokesperson, Princess Abante, accused the Senate of “killing” the P200 wage hike bill by refusing to convene a bicameral conference committee on the final night of the 19th Congress session.
She said the House was ready to negotiate and defend the higher wage increase, but the Senate insisted on a lower P100 increase and refused to engage in talks.
Labor groups condemned the Senate’s failure as a betrayal of Filipino workers, who continue to earn below a livable wage of P1,222 daily, with the current minimum at only P645.
ACT Teachers party-list criticized the Senate and the Marcos administration for siding with big businesses while denying workers their rightful pay increase.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between lawmakers over wage policy and the need for meaningful reforms to address worker poverty.
