Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado announced on June 15 that the Bureau of Immigration (BI) will fully cooperate with the Senate’s upcoming probe into alleged corruption within the agency.
The investigation follows accusations detailed in a “white paper” from BI employees, alleging Commissioner Viado’s involvement in corrupt practices and favoritism toward Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
Viado expressed confidence that the Senate hearings, led by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, will help identify and remove undesirable elements while supporting ongoing reforms.
He assured BI personnel that they had nothing to fear and encouraged the employees who submitted the allegations to come forward, promising their protection.
Viado emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency and full participation in the inquiry.
