SALT PRODUCTION FACILITY INAUGURATED IN NORTHERN SAMAR

The provincial government of Northern Samar, in partnership with national agencies, launched a Salt and Sardines Production Facility in Barangay Sangputan, San Vicente Island, to boost the province’s blue economy.

Operated by the Sangputan Workers Association (SWA), the facility focuses on producing salt to preserve fish for the local market, addressing significant post-harvest losses in the fisheries sector.

The project was developed through a workshop that evaluated community resources and market needs, aiming to add value to raw marine products.

The provincial government provided P926,248 worth of equipment and support during the inauguration on August 12.

Governor Harris Christopher Ongchuan expressed hope that this initiative will inspire similar livelihood programs across other municipalities.
