President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged the full implementation of the Sagip Saka Act and the creation of a congressional agriculture commission (AGRICOM) to ensure affordable food and fair income for farmers and fisherfolk.
He met with Cabinet officials and lawmakers to discuss supporting farmers through direct produce purchases, expanding agricultural extension services, and reviewing the Agricultural Tariffication Law.
Marcos also ordered the crafting of an executive order to establish a palay buying floor price to protect farmers from low prices during harvest season.
The President emphasized reviewing the National Food Authority’s charter to refocus on price stabilization rather than importation.
These moves aim to boost food security and improve conditions for the agricultural sector.
