Former presidential spokesman Harry Roque is still hoping to meet with detained former President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss joining his defense team for the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Roque explained that he needs Duterte’s approval to be part of the legal team, but Vice President Sara Duterte previously said Roque would not be included due to his petition for asylum in The Hague.
Roque, who left the Philippines in September 2023 and faces an arrest warrant for contempt, has a pending case with Duterte’s lead counsel, Nicholas Kaufman, to visit the former president in detention.
Roque remains confident that the ICC will grant Duterte’s interim release, despite the ICC’s jurisdiction over crimes committed during Duterte’s war on drugs.
Additionally, Roque plans to file libel charges against Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, accusing him of being involved in a human trafficking case related to Roque’s alleged links to a Philippine offshore gaming operator.
