The House of Representatives is expediting discussions on a proposed P200 daily minimum wage hike, Speaker Martin Romualdez announced.
He emphasized that the last legislated wage increase was enacted in 1989 and argued that a well-planned hike could stimulate economic growth without triggering inflation or business closures.
Romualdez met with labor leaders to gather input, reinforcing support for the measure. He highlighted how higher wages could boost household spending, drive economic activity, and support job creation.
The House continues public consultations to finalize the proposal.
