President Marcos has appointed retired judge Maria Amifaith Fider-Reyes as a commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR). Fider-Reyes, who retired in December 2023, will serve as part of the CHR’s sixth commission from 2022 to 2029.
Her appointment strengthens the gender representation and diverse expertise of the commission, where she becomes the third female member.
Fider-Reyes brings 17 years of judicial experience, including her tenure as a presiding judge in San Fernando, Pampanga, and her work in private practice and legal education.
The CHR highlighted her extensive legal background, including studies in international human rights, as an asset in advancing the commission’s mandate to protect and promote human rights in the Philippines.
