RESIDENTS SPEAK UP ABOUT CHANGES IN WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS

San Mateo Mayor Bartolome Rivera Jr. expressed surprise over the Manila city government and MMDA’s plan to use San Mateo’s landfill for Manila’s garbage disposal without prior consultation.

Rivera raised concerns that the added waste could quickly fill the landfill, increase traffic, and pose health risks to residents.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno stated that the city was properly informed and has a “Plan B” if the San Mateo landfill becomes unavailable.

MMDA Chairman Romando Artes assured that the landfill can accommodate Manila’s waste, noting that Metro Manila units have used the site before, and he plans to discuss the issue with Rivera.

Meanwhile, Malabon City has already shifted its waste disposal to the Rodriguez landfill, ensuring residents there that no garbage crisis will occur.
