Police Regional Office 6 has warned that station commanders and personnel in Iloilo may be relieved from their posts if another burglary linked to the so-called “termite gang” occurs, following two major theft incidents in the province within five months.
Regional Director Josefino Ligan said police units have been ordered to strengthen monitoring of business establishments and improve intelligence operations after the group caused multi-million peso losses through tunnel-based break-ins.
The “termite gang,” known for drilling through drainage systems and walls to access targets, was blamed for a December 2025 mall jewelry heist and an April 2026 pawnshop burglary, which together resulted in tens of millions of pesos in losses.
Ligan stressed that repeated incidents reflect lapses in prevention and warned that officers could be immediately removed if similar crimes happen again despite existing directives.
Authorities are now intensifying coordination with business owners and expanding surveillance efforts to prevent further attacks.
