The Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (Cocopea) urged President Marcos to review Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla’s blanket authority to suspend classes during heavy rains, saying it hampers school preparedness and undermines academic judgment.
They called for policies that give private schools flexibility to decide on suspensions or alternative learning methods, while expressing openness to collaborate with government agencies.
Meanwhile, Rep. Jude Acidre raised alarm over the country’s 39% dropout rate in higher education, with Bangsamoro posting a staggering 93.4% attrition.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara, on the other hand, thanked Marcos for allocating ₱1.224 trillion or 4% of GDP to education under the 2026 budget, citing it as a historic investment.
The budget will cover school operations, classroom construction, digital learning, teacher positions, and programs to address classroom shortages and student needs.
