President Ferdinand Marcos will not attend this year’s UN General Assembly (UNGA) session, but Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo will convey the Philippines’ positions on global issues.
According to Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez, Manalo will address global challenges within the framework of peace and cooperation as outlined in the UN Charter.
Manalo previously represented Marcos at last year’s assembly.
In 2022, Marcos made his debut on the world stage, advocating for the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
This year’s 79th UNGA session will be held from September 24 to 28 at the UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
