PRESIDENT MARCOS SIGNS LAW POSTPONING BARANGAY, SK ELECTIONS TO 2026 WITH 4-YEAR TERMS

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12232, postponing the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) from December 2025 to November 2026 and setting a four-year term for village and youth officials.

Under the law, barangay officials can serve up to three consecutive terms, while SK officials are limited to one term.

The next BSKE will be held on the first Monday of November 2026, with officials assuming office on December 1.

Incumbent officials will continue to serve in a hold-over capacity unless removed or suspended, but those on their third consecutive term cannot run in 2026.

The Commission on Elections is tasked with issuing the implementing rules within 90 days.
