President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. inaugurated the third phase of the Pasig River rehabilitation project in Intramuros, Manila, on Thursday.
Phase 3 aims to create 2,000 square meters of open space by closing off the previously divided Plaza Mexico road.
Marcos expressed his satisfaction with the Esplanade’s popularity among younger generations, especially Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who have embraced it as a social media hotspot.
The new phase will provide a safer, more expansive area for public events, gatherings, and leisure activities, symbolizing unity and progress while honoring the past.
The project began with Phase 1 and Phase 2, both inaugurated in 2024, and Phase 3 connects Fort Santiago to the existing Esplanade along the Pasig River.
