President Marcos affirmed that respect for the Philippines’ sovereignty is non-negotiable, highlighting the strong alliance with the United States as key to maintaining regional peace and security.
Speaking at the Manila Strategy Forum, he praised the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty and acknowledged US support in enhancing the country’s maritime security amid tensions in the South China Sea.
Marcos emphasized that the alliance also promotes economic cooperation, citing projects like the new freight railway linking key Philippine ports.
He noted the evolving partnership now includes multilateral engagements with other allies such as Australia and Japan, which Filipinos trust more than China and Iran, according to a recent survey.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy successfully tested its new missile system in live-fire exercises off Zambales, showcasing advancements in defense capabilities.
