POPE’S LIGHTHEARTED ADVICE TO NEW FILIPINO CARDINAL: “DON’T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY”

Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, recently appointed by Pope Francis as one of the new cardinals, received a lighthearted piece of advice from the pope: “Don’t take things too seriously.”

David is among 21 bishops and priests elevated to the College of Cardinals on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and he met with the pope in the Vatican, where he expressed his surprise at the honor.

During their conversation, Pope Francis encouraged him to embrace God’s humor regarding his new role.

David, known for his outspoken criticism of the previous administration’s war on drugs, will become the third Filipino cardinal, joining Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle and Jose Cardinal Advincula.
