The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that only police and military personnel can purchase night vision rifle scopes.
Police Lt. Col. Eudisan Gultiano stated that these accessories should be restricted to law enforcement, as they still need evaluation by the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO).
The reminder follows reports of dealers selling these devices, some promoting them on Facebook.
Gultiano warned that unrestricted sales could lead to private armed groups acquiring the equipment and noted that any night vision rifle scopes owned by civilians could be confiscated.
While these accessories are restricted, civilians may soon be allowed to own semi-automatic rifles following amendments to the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
