The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced it will investigate violations of President Marcos Jr.’s price freeze order on basic goods until the end of the year.
Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said hoarding and overpricing will be treated as serious offenses akin to economic sabotage.
The PNP will coordinate with local government units and the Department of Trade and Industry to monitor compliance and respond to complaints.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and local police units have been tasked with cracking down on profiteering.
The price freeze covers imported rice, canned goods, milk, coffee, bottled water, bread, and other essential commodities ahead of the Christmas season.
