Human rights lawyer Chel Diokno has called for “urgent and immediate action” following allegations of a rewards system used during the Duterte administration’s controversial “war on drugs.”
Diokno accused the administration of turning the Philippine National Police (PNP) into a “killing machine” and insisted that those involved, including former President Rodrigo Duterte, be held accountable.
The allegations surfaced during a House committee hearing where retired police colonel Royina Garma revealed that Duterte proposed a nationwide rewards system for police officers involved in the anti-drug campaign.
Diokno stressed the need for accountability for the thousands of lives lost during the bloody crackdown.
He urged justice for the victims and prosecution of those responsible.
