PCCI URGES ANGARA TO FOCUS ON STUDENT ICT PROFICIENCY

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has urged newly appointed Education Secretary Sonny Angara to prioritize ICT development and proficiency among students to prepare them for a digital future.

PCCI President Enunina Mangio highlighted the country’s low ranking in the 2023 Coursera’s Global Skills Report, emphasizing the need to improve technical knowledge and skills.

President Marcos also tasked Angara with enhancing the teaching of Philippine history, improving teachers’ financial security, and adapting teacher training to technological advancements.

Additionally, Marcos called for better student performance in STEM subjects and reading comprehension and suggested short specialized courses to improve employability.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expressed confidence in Angara’s ability to implement fiscal reforms and address issues in the education sector, including problems with the private school education subsidy program.
