PHILIPPINES STANDS FIRM: NO NEED FOR CHINA APPROVAL TO ACCESS AYUNGIN, SAYS AÑO

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año stated that the Philippines does not need China’s approval to conduct activities in Ayungin Shoal, following China’s claim requiring prior notice for access.

This assertion reaffirms the Philippines’ sovereign rights over the shoal within its exclusive economic zone, as recognized by international law and the 2016 Arbitral Award.

Recent tensions included Chinese Coast Guard members seizing supplies intended for the BRP Sierra Madre.

Additionally, Commodore Roy Trinidad warned of China’s pervasive influence in Philippine society and called for public vigilance against potential threats.

Meanwhile, U.S. and Philippine soldiers established a Joint Operations Center during Exercise Salaknib 2024 to enhance military collaboration and regional security.
