The Philippines takes the global spotlight as the Guest of Honor at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair, marking a historic celebration of Filipino literature and culture.
Senator Loren Legarda, who championed the country’s participation, honored Dr. José Rizal’s legacy and emphasized the power of ideas and imagination in shaping freedom and national identity.
The Philippine delegation features around 500 authors, illustrators, and publishers, with over 170 international translations sold across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Filipino literary figures, including Merlie Alunan, Mookie Katigbak-Lacuesta, and Marjorie Evasco, represented the country in key discussions.
Highlighting the event were the German translations of Rizal’s “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo,” alongside other contemporary Filipino works.
