PHILIPPINES REJECTS US REQUEST FOR IMMUNITY IN TARLAC AI HUB PROJECT

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority said the Philippines rejected the United States’ request to grant diplomatic immunity to American personnel involved in the proposed AI industrial hub in New Clark City, Tarlac.

BCDA president Joshua Bingcang clarified that the project would be governed by Philippine laws, including the Investors’ Lease Act and the BCDA Law, and treated as a regular business development contract.

The 4,000-acre AI hub, part of the US-led Pax Silica Initiative, aims to strengthen global supply chains and support the development of critical minerals and green technology industries in the country.

Jacob Helberg said the initiative seeks to provide more reliable supply chains for AI-related industries amid increasing global demand for chips, metals, and energy systems.

Philippine officials also dismissed claims that the proposed AI hub would turn the country into a war production center, emphasizing its role in economic growth and advanced technology development.
