PHILIPPINES JOINS TOP TUNA PRODUCERS IN THE WORLD

The Philippines is now one of the top tuna producers in the world, according to the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR)

Last year, the country produced over 475,000 metric tons of tuna, an impressive achievement considering the country’s size.

The Philippines also exported more than 107,000 metric tons of tuna last year.

The tuna industry in the Philippines has great potential and continues to adapt to challenges.

This is something that the Filipinos must be proud of as Tuna accounts for about 10.25 percent of our fisheries production, which is a vital part of the country’s fishing industry.

The government is continuously working to strengthen the tuna industry by implementing programs and projects that focus on managing our fisheries and adapting to challenges.

These include setting up Fisheries Management Areas, creating new regulations for tuna fisheries, and supporting projects that help us deal with changes in the environment, like rising sea temperatures caused by climate change.

The recent National Tuna Congress discussed these issues and explored strategies to overcome global challenges in the tuna industry.
